First Presbyterian Church has a strong tradition of outreach on both local and global levels. One of our key missions is providing support to area shelters, soup kitchens and food pantries, which includes preparing and serving meals, collecting bedding, toiletries and clothing--and even supplying a shelter with handmade quilts for residents. We sponsor educational programs on topics ranging from family communication and clean energy to a talk from the regional director of Bread for the World (with a subsequent letter-writing campaign). FPC also helps to sponsor the Overseas Mission Studies Center, supporting the work of missionaries in Guatemala, Russia, and Uganda. During the Advent season our annual Alternative Gift Market (featuring Fair Trade items from around the world) is open to the wider community, and a popular event during the holiday season.
